| We play mainly mixed matches as well
as separate men's and ladies matches. Our season opens at the end of April each
year and closes at the end of September, or weather permitting early October.
As well as matches against Eastbourne and other clubs in Sussex, we also
entertain touring teams from various parts of the UK. There are roll-ups every afternoon Monday to Saturday. Members are simply encouraged to turn up on the day and are then organised into teams. We regard roll-ups as an important part of our club activities as they help us to maintain the very friendly atmosphere of our club. |

| Location | St. John's Bowling Club is situated
in Helen Gardens on the south coast at Eastbourne. The bowling green has six
rinks, is full regulation size, laid with Cumberland turf and is positioned
above the chalk cliffs just a short distance from the spectacular white cliffs
at Falling Sands and the world famous beauty spot, Beachy Head. Whether you are able to fully concentrate on your bowling, is debatable, as the glorious views from the green, out across the English Channel are probably the best views from any bowling green in the UK! |

| Helen Gardens Park | Helen Gardens Park is a very picturesque park that is nestled below the downs, high on the seafront, two and a quarter kilometres west of the pier. The park contains a good-sized putting course. A petanque/boule rink, a modern children's play area as well as sweeping lawns from which there are magnificent views over the sea and towards Eastbourne pier. | We are always very pleased to make touring teams very welcome at Helen Gardens. Should you wish to bring a team to our green, or require more information, please contact our Match Secretary. | ||||
| Eastbourne | The town of Eastbourne regularly enjoys more sunshine hours and dry weather than anywhere else in the UK, thanks to the shelter of the South Downs. | After bowling, Eastbourne offers the perfect place to relax, or if you are inclined, to kick up your heels and dance the night away! You can tour the busy Sovereign Harbour Marina, take in a West End show, enjoy a bandstand concert ranging from Sunday Night at the Proms or Classical 1812 with fireworks, or just take a stroll on the pier or along the world famous seafront Carpet Gardens. | ||||
